I have Ubuntu installed on the OpenA computer and it is working great. Much better than Windows XP which is having trouble booting and then frequently crashes. Ubuntu has been running for over 36 hours and shows no sign of having any difficulty. It is working so well I think I will put it on the Dell Inspiron in dual boot with XP. As a first step I am doing a disk cleanup before installing Ubuntu. Drive C is using 7.07 GB and has 20.8 GB free. I did not realize it only has a 30 GB hard drive. I should probably check to see how much ram it has and what kind of a processor it has. It has an Intel Pentium processor, 1.99 GHz and 512 MB of RAM. When installing wanted to use all free space for the new partition, 64%, 16.5 GB.

TWIM discussed writers strike and the new Sony, shoulder mounted video camera Z7U ($10,000) and the VX.
I should check out www.mobeygratius.com as a source of free music for video sound tracks. Here is a quote from the web site.
hi,
i'll keep this brief.
this portion of moby.com, 'film music', is for independent and non-profit filmmakers, film students, and anyone in need of free music for their independent, non-profit film, video, or short.
to use the site you log in(or on?) and are then given a password.
you can then listen to the available music and download whatever you want to use in your film or video or short.
the music is free as long as it's being used in a non-commercial or non-profit film, video, or short.
if you want to use it in a commercial film or short then you can apply for an easy license, with any money that's generated being given to the humane society.
i hope that you find what you're looking for,
moby
I need to get an ubuntu book with disc for the Gateway computer.
Went to Dr Helman for my annual checkup and to check on neck rash treatment progress. Saw Dr McCaskil 12 days ago. Weight today is 187 and height 5ft 9in on the clinic scale. In the evening I watched the remaining episodes of The Office, season 3 on a DVD from netflix. I have used up download direct allocation from Netflix until December 3.
I really screwed up my MacBook. I put a ubuntu disk in it and then set it to boot from CD. It booted into ubuntu linux but was not able to get into the graphics interface, in other words it was stuck in text mode. I shut it down and took the ubuntu disk out but it still booted to a line prompt asking for the disk. I thought it might boot from an OS X system disk but it would not and I could not remove the system disk. So I looked at apple/support and saw I could boot from the CD by holding down the C key. Then before actually installing a new OS X, I saw and clicked on an options button and this allowed me to select a startup volume and restart the computer. Back to normal. Now to defragment the defunct OpenA PC and install ubuntu on it.

Leo LaPorte uses Adobe Audition with Vista to do all his audio editing for his podcasts. I should mention this to Al who wishes to do some editing of files from his new digital audio recorder.
Drupal is web page content management software, could try this for PracticlePress.net (http://drupal.org/)
With iPhoto08 create an album, then send it to .Mac Web Gallery. Other people can view photos and can add photos to the site.
Installed iLife 08 on MacBook. It installed the new version of iMovie, but left the old version in the applications folder. I started to make a copy of the PFG DVD for son John but the old project would not open in iLife 08, so I created a new DVD project and included the preview on the DVD. Here are the remaining things I want to do with the project
1. Add a background music track from Bluegrass Treasures, lowering volume when there is good audio.
2. Establish chapters.
3. Create DVD with the Final Cut Studio DVD program. Alternatively, I could import the QT movie into iMovie (old version), add chapters, and create DVD with iDVD.
4. Creata new disk cover, make copies for sibs and kids, and announce it on wasson.com
Another project I need to do is to move the Dell XPR to a better place and connect the HP 2200 USB connection. Remove the old OpenA computer and load ubuntu Linux system on to the Gateway computer. Try running it as a local server for wassons.com
